How to create a student group

If your course administrator has turned on this option, you may create your own student groups for collaboration with other students in your course.

Each group gets their own calendar and file storage facilities, and can create their own wiki pages and discussions.

Choose People from the course menu to the left
Choose the Groups tab
Please note: This is the same place where the others can find and join or resign from a group.
Click on the + Groups button on the top left. However, if there is no such button available, that means students are not allowed to create groups.

Group settings

Give the group a name
Choose whether the group should be open for every member of the course to join.

Open groups

You can give out invitations to open groups. Check the names of the students that you want to invite, and click Submit

Membership by invitation

By default, everyone in the course can see the group and sign up if they want to. Choosing membership by invitation will hide the group from all but the recipients of an invitation

Choose the students who want to include, and click Submit
No one can join or resign
It's not possible to add more members later
Other students cannot see the groups in the group list

Please note: All the members of the group have equal status. The person who creates the group does not have any special rights, and cannot delete the group. Teachers always have access to all groups, and can also delete groups.

Please note: Unfortunately, Mitt UiB does not support web conferences yet, even though the "New Student Group" menu says so. This is a function that only exists in the complete version of Canvas, and is therefore not available in the Mitt UiB version of Canvas.
